At milepost 51 the trailhead parking is well marked. Follow the blue blazed trail to a seventy foot waterfall (the closest waterfall to the Skyline Drive). Most people turn around here but you can pass the crowds and walk on down to the Rose River Road. Turn right and walk a short distance to the Rose River Loop if you like. You'll add about 4.5 miles to your walk and enjoy the headwaters of the Rose River (and possibly some solitude). If you yield to temptation and go to the Rose, simply turn left when the trail joins the horse trail and turn left again at the Rose River Road to return to Dark Hollow Falls Trail.
